(What Happened to Little Mouse?)\, is a multidisciplinary theatrical production exploring Native American and Two-Spirit (LGBT) identity through non-verbal interpretations of Chickasaw myths utilizing traditional masks\, pantomime and live music. Local drag performer and Two-Spirit artist\, Landa Lakes\, takes you on a journey with Little Mouse as she explores the ancient world of Southeastern Tribal origin stories. Storyteller\, J Miko Thomas (Chickasaw)\, based these characters on nearly forgotten oral stories passed down through generations and weaves them into one adventure. Along with fellow queer artist Peter Griggs\, Thomas sets the mood in this world with sounds and percussion. Choreographer Travis Santell Rowland provides movement as Little Mouse encounters colorful characters on her journey of self-discovery. The intentions behind this project are to expose audience members to the myriad of ways Black\, queer people navigate their personal lives and mental health while experiencing oppression and fighting injustices afflicting both the Black and Queer communities. Set in the present day culture of fighting against state violence\, Seeds tells the story of D\, a Black\, queer masculine-of-center woman who is pulled into activism after seeing her best friend murdered by police. Although she experiences the turmoil of fighting for justice while battling oppression because of her identity\, the seeds she plants for Black liberation grow stronger because of her perseverance. DESCRIPTION:Larkin Street Youth Services & Qcc present\nChanges\nJune 9 – Opening Reception – 6pm\nExhibition June 9 – July 2\nLARKIN\, Opening Reception – 6pm\n134 Golden Gate avenue\, SF\nCurated by Alex Hernandez \nFREE \nDue to San Francisco’s rising cost of living\, it has created a lot displacement for various groups that once thrived in the city. Based on San Francisco’s 2013 Homeless Count\, 29 percent of the city’s homeless population identified as LGBT. A portion of those homeless are Queer youth that have run away from home from other parts of country\, coming to San Francisco in hopes of finding a community that will love and support them. Due to the economic changes to the city\, a lot of these young folks struggle to obtain housing and jobs. \nLarkin Street Youth Services has been helping youth get off the streets since the 1980’s. The Art department at Larkin has been encouraging artistic inclined youth to use art as a way to express their struggles and aspirations. This exhibition perfectly fits the NQAF theme of Horizons because it gives young Queer artists a voice and perspective of San Francisco’s changing landscape.
