Using monologue\, song\, dance and drag Rotimi embodies\, explores\, and exposes the battles artists fight in the exclusive world of mainstream American theatre. \nDrawing from Rotimi’s experience as a professional actor\, Type/Caste portrays the peaks and pitfalls of a young artist’s quest for success and raises the questions: What is true artistic success and how can it be achieved in an art form that has been overrun by commercial concerns? How can an artist create outsider art in a profession that overwhelmingly favors insiders? How does our American brand of profits-over-people capitalism threaten the very soul of the performing arts? \nARTISTS’ BIOGRAPHIES \nDiscipline: Music/Performance \nCreating Queer Community

DESCRIPTION:Larkin Street Youth Services & Qcc present\nChanges\nJune 9 – Opening Reception – 6pm\nExhibition June 9 – July 2\nLARKIN\, Opening Reception – 6pm\n134 Golden Gate avenue\, SF\nCurated by Alex Hernandez \nFREE \nDue to San Francisco’s rising cost of living\, it has created a lot displacement for various groups that once thrived in the city. Based on San Francisco’s 2013 Homeless Count\, 29 percent of the city’s homeless population identified as LGBT. A portion of those homeless are Queer youth that have run away from home from other parts of country\, coming to San Francisco in hopes of finding a community that will love and support them. Due to the economic changes to the city\, a lot of these young folks struggle to obtain housing and jobs. \nLarkin Street Youth Services has been helping youth get off the streets since the 1980’s. The Art department at Larkin has been encouraging artistic inclined youth to use art as a way to express their struggles and aspirations. This exhibition perfectly fits the NQAF theme of Horizons because it gives young Queer artists a voice and perspective of San Francisco’s changing landscape. It’s an exhibition about origins and destinations. \nCURATOR’S BIOGRAPHY \nDiscipline: Visual Arts \nCreating Queer Community \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n

An Evening of Butch Burlesque\nQULTURE\, 8pm\nJulia Robertson\, Oriana Saportas \nExhibition Free and events suggested donation $5-$10 \nWhat does it mean to live in the slash of a binary; male/female\, gay/straight? FLEXIBLE HORIZONS; the body in transit is a curated group show that defines the end of “normal.” This exhibit explores the intersection of class\, race and gender within the body-individual-community—through portraits\, performance\, experimental films and discussion. \nJune 3 – Film Screening Criminal Queers Directed by Eric A. Stanley and Chris Vargas $5 suggested donation; proceeds go to TGI Justice Project. \nCriminal Queers visualizes a radical trans/queer struggle against the prison industrial complex and toward a world without walls. Remembering that prison breaks are both theoretical and material practices of freedom\, this film imagines what spaces might be opened up if crowbars\, wigs and metal files become tools for transformation. \nEric A. Stanley is a filmmaker\, writer and coeditor of Captive Genders: Trans Embodiment and the Prison Industrial Complex. Chris Vargas is a video maker & interdisciplinary artist and Executive Director of MOTHA\, the Museum of Transgender Hirstory & Art. \nDiscipline: Film/Video \nCreating Queer Community

Exploring how we determine relationships to cultural histories and personal narratives\, Hellu claims his identity in relation to his Syrian roots and Arab ethnicity. All Ways Lead To The Mill is inspired by a Syrian proverb about how different paths lead to the same destination. His work juxtaposes performative moving and still images to address homophobia and sexuality\, creating a contemporary discourse about the implications of cultural lineage. \nARTIST’S BIOGRAPHY \nDiscipline: Visual Art \nCreating Queer Community \n

DESCRIPTION:Queer Youth Productions\, Galeria de la Raza & Qcc present\nMuck and Sparkle: The Magic and Pain of Survival\nJune 2\nGaleria de la Raza\, Studio 24\, 6pm\nEPLi\, Ariel Springfield & Madhvi Trivedi\nFREE \nWebsite: www.queeryouthproductions.com\nSocial Media: https://www.facebook.com/events/463631963830713/ \nWith hands outstretched to the future\, Queer Youth Productions’ traveling exhibit\, Muck and Sparkle: The Magic and Pain of Survival\, brings forth the art of expanding hearts and the paradox of possibility in a candid array of artwork from LGBTQIA2S youth. The show brings with it the specter of struggle that youth maneuver to (re)claim space and carve out the complexities of their identities. \nAlongside powerful depictions of self determination\, this exhibit transcends the two dimensional\, offering a unique glimpse into the less-often-heard-seen-thought-touched-interiority of vulnerability that comes with uncovering (un)truths of gender and sexuality. By centering voices of queer youth\, we are able to reflect upon work that has been done in queer communities as well as build intergenerational conversations for envisioning supportive and liberating futures. Within these artworks is a resilient force of magic that speaks to a collective and time-defying queer tongue. \nARTISTS’ BIOGRAPHIES \nFunded in part by The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence\, Sister Grant. \n \n  \nDiscipline: Visual Art \nCreating Queer Community

SUMMARY:Manifesting Access
DESCRIPTION:The Idriss Stelley Foundation & Qcc present\n Manifesting Access\nJune 1\nAAACC\, 7:30pm\nLisa Ganser \n$10-20 sliding scale\, NOTA\nTickets: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2550348 \nManifesting Access is an intentionally more accessible (captioned and audio described) collection of short movies that expose truths at the intersection of disability and police terror. From the Sins Invalid Statement Against Police Violence: “Disabled people who are Autistic\, who are Deaf\, who live with mental health impairments or cognitive impairments\, epilepsy or movement disorders\, are at highest risk of being assaulted by police\, and that is deeply compounded when we are further marginalized by homelessness\, transphobia\, and white supremacy.” \nThis screening makes accessible the work of artists and activists including Janetta Johnson\, Noémie Serfaty\, Akiko Sampson\, Kin Folkz\, Lisa Ganser\, Judy Hanks with Nazeem and Spencer Joles\, Tali Jones\, Colin Ashante\, Leroy Moore & Emmitt Thrower\, and Mario Farid.
