The fourth annual Independence Day program features Sousa marches, speeches,
Dixieland jazz, contests and games for kids and adults. This year Wattis Artist-in-Residence Jennifer Higdon introduces the world premiere of “Freedom Dreams,” a new overture celebrating families of choice, specifically created for the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band. Conducted by Jadine Louie, this new work is the San Francisco component of the American Composers Forum Continental Harmony Project. Co-sponsored by the Jon Sims Center for the Performing Arts, the Alternative Family Project, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, All Our Families Coalition, American Composers Forum, Harvey Milk Institute, Queer Cultural Center, and City Arts.
