No CQC call for applications this fall. No NQAF next summer.

Queer admin is often boring and unglamorous, like much of the scaffolding that sustains our movements. So many of our beloved spaces are going under, losing funding and being attacked from all sides. Here at QCC, we’re responding with an intentional pause.

Programmatic work gets funded, so nonprofits keep producing it to the point of exhaustion. We want to explore what happens when we don’t let this work kill us. When we give our staff the time, space, and resources to build systems that can sustain us for the long haul.

Over the next 12 months, we’ll be doing that infrastructure building in public. You’ll see our beautiful archive and learn how we stay afloat despite shrinking public resources. We’ll share texts we’re reading that will shape QCC’s curatorial lens over the next few years. This work will bring us together for an arts & culture convening next May.

Our programs return in the 2027-2028 season. For now, we’re inviting you into what makes the return possible. Nothing is ever really nothing 💗

It takes a lot of work behind the scenes to keep queer art in frame. We believe that work is a public cultural practice, not something to edit out.

Tomorrow, let’s turn the camera around.

Everything is everything… but nothing from nothing

Everything is everything… but nothing from nothing leaves nothing. This year, we’re talking about what’s in between and underneath. Stay tuned for more.

Queer Cultural Center is entering a new era, and we’re looking for new board members to help shape what comes next.

We are rebuilding our infrastructure, strengthening our role in the Bay Area’s queer arts ecosystem, deepening community engagement, and building a more sustainable, accountable, and artist-centered organization.

We’re looking for artists, community members, and people with nonprofit or community organizing experience. Board service is an opportunity to advocate for queer arts and culture, grow your leadership and governance skills, support cool arts events, and help steward a city-supported cultural program.

You do not need prior board experience. We’re looking for people who care deeply, think collaboratively, and want to build with us.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, with priority given to those completed by 8/31. Learn more at the link in bio!

Congratulations to @xemaradotcom @ledao.wav @alfre

Congratulations to @xemaradotcom @ledao.wav @alfredozapatadejesus and @demse.000 on a successful showcase. Standing in front of a crowd and sharing your art, a piece of yourself, requires incredible vulnerability. It is no small feat for queer people of color in this moment. We’re so proud of your hard work this year.

Thanks to our illustrious host @aimathedreamer and to @bravatheater - especially Saoirse and Michael on tech, Jojo and Jade in the house, and Lottie on logistics. Thanks to @damissionphotos for capturing all the events across our productions this year. And thanks to Demi, Johnny, Apollo and Lauren for holding it down during a huge moment of transition for QCC. It takes a village.

We hope you’ll attend our final pride event this coming Tuesday (check out our last post for more info, an adorable animation by @payne.mov !)

EMERGING ARTIST: LUCIA 益亚雯

@ledao.wav is an interdisciplinary artist exploring the body as a vessel for culture and legacy. Their work for QCC’s Emerging Artist Showcase is a contemporary dance piece about conflict as intimacy. Two bodies navigating rupture, reactivity, and the limits of what we’ve been taught, first in silence, then to sound. Uncomfortable, heartbreaking, and reaching toward something better.
