Congratulations to @xemaradotcom @ledao.wav @alfredozapatadejesus and @demse.000 on a successful showcase. Standing in front of a crowd and sharing your art, a piece of yourself, requires incredible vulnerability. It is no small feat for queer people of color in this moment. We’re so proud of your hard work this year.

Thanks to our illustrious host @aimathedreamer and to @bravatheater - especially Saoirse and Michael on tech, Jojo and Jade in the house, and Lottie on logistics. Thanks to @damissionphotos for capturing all the events across our productions this year. And thanks to Demi, Johnny, Apollo and Lauren for holding it down during a huge moment of transition for QCC. It takes a village.

EMERGING ARTIST: LUCIA 益亚雯

@ledao.wav is an interdisciplinary artist exploring the body as a vessel for culture and legacy. Their work for QCC’s Emerging Artist Showcase is a contemporary dance piece about conflict as intimacy. Two bodies navigating rupture, reactivity, and the limits of what we’ve been taught, first in silence, then to sound. Uncomfortable, heartbreaking, and reaching toward something better.

EMERGING ARTIST: ALFREDO ZAPATA DE JESUS

Alfredo is a media artist from Puerto Rico whose work is driven by interactions with the humid landscapes of his home-mother-land. His work for QCC’s Emerging Artist Showcase is a slow-moving, atmospheric sound performance. Ambient, sensual, interior. Alfredo builds a sonic world from a small stage and invites the audience to inhabit it with him.

@demse.000 is an Audiology and AV Tech by day, mirror bound metamorphic rocker by night. Their portion of QCC’s Emerging Artist Showcase will be a rock set that moves through pride, lust, ego, and collective liberation. Big energy, mirror aesthetics, sound-reactive visuals. Demse is the rockstar and the ritual all at once.

EMERGING ARTIST: XEMARA

@xemaradotcom is a singer, songwriter, composer, and live sound engineer. Their works live as recorded music, performances, essays, and videos. Their portion of QCC’s Emerging Artist showcase will be a smoky, intimate cabaret set drawing from house, jazz, and cumbia. Rhythmically alive but emotionally bittersweet.
