The Possibilities of Pluralism is an ongoing task force of local artists-of-color working in conjunction with the Jon Sims Center for the Arts to envision and implement an approach to multicultural arts production and programming that embraces a truly queer model of inclusion across racial, ethnic, gender, age, and class boundaries. With generous funding from The San Francisco Foundation, this group of artists has been actively identifying issues and strategies for moving beyond current trends that tend to isolate sub-groups or rely on token representation in programming. The vision is one of moving towards a true pluralism, where access to resources is guaranteed to all, where individuals choose to participate in art practices that stretch the imagination beyond familiar identity politics, and where critical discourse accompanies artistic production.
