Plus the San Francisco premiere of Sing for the Cure, a musical journey through the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.

Sing for the Cure is told through the personal experiences of breast cancer survivors, their partners and their loved ones. Librettist Pamela Martin interviewed scores of people whose unique stories comprise the narration and lyrics for ten songs set to the music of ten composers, each of whom has been touched by breast cancer in some way. The song cycle is arranged for mixed chorus and orchestra, chamber ensemble or piano. Its effect is universal: both performers and audience members alike experience the pain of facing death and the hope of life that is so real for all who make the journey.

The latter part of the program will feature music for and by women, ranging from Holly Near to Madonna.
