The history, culture, politics, sexuality of San Francisco’s Castro, America’s most famous LGBTQ neighborhood, are brought to life in the new book Out in the Castro: Desire, Promise, Activism, edited by Winston Leyland, an independent gay publishers for more than 30 years. Over 35 writers/artists are represented in the book, and a number of them will take part in this event. Speakers include Leyland, activist Tommi Avicolli-Mecca, singer/activist Blackberri, former Board of Supervisors member Harry Britt, Gay Games Vice President Gene Dermody, activist and former MCC pastor Jim Mitulski, famed Castro photographer Rink Foto, novelist and Harvey Milk’s speechwriter Frank Robinson, and several others.
Out in the Castro also has contributions from Jewelle Gomez, Kirk Read, Laura Siegel, and Sister Dana Van Iquity. Books will be available at the event for purchase and signing.
