Jongwoo Jeremy Kim and Christopher Reed are the co-editors of a forthcoming volume of essays, Queer Theory and Visual Culture: Rethinking Identity and the Sexed Body, that will change the way we think about queer identity in relation to pleasure. The editors and contributing authors interrogate “difficult queers” whose stories refuse to align with narratives of homoeroticism as emancipation.
Jongwoo Jeremy Kim is Associate Professor of Art History at the Hite Art Institute, Department of Fine Arts, University of Louisville, Kentucky. His first book, Painted Men in Britain, 1868-1918: Royal Academicians and Masculinities (2012) models new ways of understanding modernism’s histories and objects.
Chistopher Reed is Professor of English and Visual Culture at Pennsylvania State University. His recent publications include Bloomsbury Rooms (2004) and Art and Homosexuality: A History of Ideas (2011). He co-authored, with Christopher Castiglia, If Memory Serves: Gay Men, AIDS, and the Promise of the Queer Past in 2012. His forthcoming book, Bachelor Japanists: Japanese Aesthetics and Western Masculinities, explores the use of Japanese aesthetics in constructions of Occidental forms of masculinity.

Queer Conversations on Culture and the Arts brings together locally and nationally renowned artists, writers, filmmakers, and scholars for a series of conversations to discuss a broad range of LGBTQI topics in the humanities and the arts. QCCA is an on-going collaboration between the Queer Cultural Center and California College of the Arts.
