cuerpo

Poetry, prose, and visual art from Queer Latinas: Where the lips would betray, the mind might censor, the conscience avoid; the body never fails. The body tells Truth.  The body matters.  Work from & inspired by the third issue of the groundbreaking literary ‘zine, JOTA: www.jotazine.org

Cuerpo y Revolucion literary curator: Wanda Alarcón

Wanda Alarcón is the editor of JOTA, Chicana lesbian literary ‘zine, winner of the 2003 DIY Book Festival in it’s category. Seeking out and publishing new queer Chicana writers yearly since then – a true labor of love – she is working towards building community through print, live performance and the web: www.jotazine.org. A practicing Taurus, she finds inspiration in the written and spoken word, music, love, and the ciudad, Nuestra Señora de Los Angeles, by day and by night. She collaborates on art projects with life-long friends as much as possible while holding a proper 9-5 job in a small Quaker college. When she’s not writing editing, or working, she enjoys picnics at the Bowl (the $3 tix), walks around the Silverlake Reservoir, and camping under the stars with her cute, butch, professor compañera of 11 years.

Cuerpo y Revolucion Visual Art curator: Sandy Guevara-Ross

Sandy Guevara-Ross is a sometimes artist, sometimes rabble-rouser, sometimes analyst with a background in sculpture & furniture design. She was deeply influenced by coming of age in LA surrounded by concrete, taco trucks, citrus trees, punk rock, and aqua-net coated cha-chas.  She is now happy to call Oakland home.
