Garage – Allstars 1

FACT/SF presents three pieces by Charles Slender that examine relationships between viewers and the viewed.  These sassy works challenge assumptions, undermine expectations, and make no apologies for gratuitously voracious dancing. FACT/SF, under the Artistic Direction of Charles Slender, has been presenting works in the San Francisco since 2008.  The company has been curated into numerous local festivals and has received residencies at The Garage and Mama Calizo’s Voice Factory, with funding from the Zellerbach Family Foundation and a CA$H Grant from Theatre Bay Area/Dancers’ Group.  Charles’ choreography, described as “whip smart and sinuously stealth” has quickly become an important and visible part of the San Francisco contemporary dance community.  www.factsf.org

Labayen Dance/SF

Labayen Dance/SF will present the thought provoking Two Chairs, A Man & The Plague, a multi-media solo performed by Enrico Labayen; the work comments and informs on how society, politics and cultures deals with the plague from the black death in the dark ages up to the plague that haunts us at present. Enrico Labayen has received awards, fellowships & citations from Beaux Arts Society of New York as “Dancer of the Year”; The Dutch Ministry of Cultural Exchange Fellowship Award , Asian Institute for Liturgy and Music Residency Fellowship “Choreographer of the Year” award by Manila Chronicle (Philippines) ; The Isadora Duncan Award (The Izzies) for “Outstanding Achievement in Choreography” (USA); Filipino American Faces of the Century ; Filipinas Achievement Award (USA)  ;The City of Manila’s “Patnubay ng Sining at Kalinangan Award” (Guardian of Art and Culture) for Dance in the 2004  (Manila Day) celebration; Named as a Global Filipino by The Filipino Channel, International (TFC), an ABS-CBN  International; Cultural Caregiving Travel Grant to Australia; Guest lecturer at University of New South Wales, Sydney; Residency at Djerassi Artists Residency (US), Rimbun Dahan Artist Residency (Malaysia).

Nathan Cottam (Mannakin Theater & Dance) began became involved in ballet while completing a bachelor’s degree in Sociology.  He recently graduated from the University of Arizona with a Master of Fine Arts in dance.  Nathan served as the Dance Director for Legacy Dance Theater’s 2008 production of Pioneer Legacy and performed in China on tour with Kim Robards Dance.  New to the Bay Area, Nathan is excited to be performing in his debut at the Garage.
