| Crowded Fire Theater presents Forever Never Comes, a world premiere by Enrique Urueta and directed by Mary Guzmán. Wracked by guilt over her brother’s death, Sandra makes a deal with the Fox Confessor, a mysterious and mythical figure who watches over the small, rural town of South Boston, VA. When the Fox Confessor demands payment, secrets are revealed and family sins are not easily washed away. Not even the hope of sweet new love with Dylan, a young trans man, can keep Sandra’s nightmares at bay.
In this Psycho-Southern Queer Country Dance Tragedy, Mr. Urueta takes us on a poetic and soul searching journey from Virginia to San Francisco, with forays into the underworld, generating questions around the fluidity of identity, as well as the embedded fear that drives systems of xenophobia. Filled with the heartbreaking sounds of alternative country music and startling imagery, the play embodies the nuances of longing and loss in the context of the American South.

Enrique Urueta
Enrique Urueta (Playwright) Colombian-American, by way of Virginia and San Francisco, Enrique Urueta’s plays have been developed or produced by Brown University/Trinity Repertory Theatre Consortium, American Repertory Theater, Aurora Theatre, Playwrights Foundation, Impact Theatre, The Lark Play Development Center, Golden Thread Productions, and The Queer Cultural Center, where he is currently the playwright in residence. He is a recipient of the Creating Queer Communities grant, a Theatre Bay Area CA$H Grant, The Global Age Project Award 2007, and the Theater Bay Area New Works Fund Grant 2008. He is the 2009 finalist for the Yale Drama Series Award and was chosen for the 2009 RADAR Lab Writers’ retreat.
Mary Guzmán (Director) Internationally renowned director, Mary Guzmán, has been attached to Forever Never Comes since its inception in 2006, when she directed a well-received reading of an early draft at The National Queer Arts Festival. Her renderings of queer identity both in theater and film have won her acclaim as a fresh and powerful director. Local stage directing credits include Shotgun Players, Playwrights Foundation, and Impact Theatre.
Forever Never Comes was first presented as a staged reading in the 2007 National Queer Arts Festival. Since then, the piece has received further development through RADAR Productions Lab writers retreat and Crowded Fire’s Matchbox Program.
