AMERICA’S MOST UNWANTED is a video project focusing on LGBT foster youth who have emancipated and what their current lives look like. This inspirational expose will inspire empty-nesters to become foster parents, politicians to change policy and foster youth supporters to feel empowered! A tale of endearment, AMERICA’S MOST UNWANTED (AMU) provides a candid glimpse into the lives of LGBT foster youth filtered through a lens of hope.
AMERICA’S MOST UNWANTED’s Town Hall Tour is an interactive event featuring a Q&A with youth from the film and the director Shani Heckman. Information on adoption, foster parenting, and volunteering with/for LGBT youth will be available at the event.
“Shani Heckman has captured the intelligence, integrity, and courage of all current and former foster youth. Her film has done an immense service to our community, inspiring not only myself but everyone I’ve shown it to.”
– Lauren, a former foster youth
”Shani Heckman’s ‘Americas Most Unwanted’ is a groundbreaking new film. It not only sheds light on the failings of foster care, but more importantly provides a platform for youth to share with the world their experiences growing up in foster care, struggles for survival, and experiences of triumph despite the failing system they were forced to grow up within.”
-Sassafras Lowrey Editor of the Kicked Out anthology
“Congratulations on an amazing film! As a former CPS worker and child welfare LGBTQ trainer I’ve seen a lot of these kinds of films and yours really stands out. I appreciated the diversity and the sense of hope we are left with.”
