A historic event you dare not miss! For the first time ever, the nation’s most celebrated Latina legends of queer comedy will take to the same stage, proving Marga has flava, Monica has spice, and Tropicana has juice. Representing their Mexican, Cuban, Puerto Rican and Gemini heritage with material as fresh as they are, these caliente mamacitas will do solo turns and come together, delivering the best in stand up and sketch comedy, por favor! All performances will be in English for the Espanol challenged.

Artist Biographies

Marga Gomez has been a featured stand up comic on HBO’s Comic Relief, Showtime’s Latino Laugh Festival and Comedy Central’s Out There and in concert all over the country. She is writer and performer of five theatre solo shows. She has thrice appeared in the Vagina Monologues and won LA’s Ovation Award and the Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Award . Her latest show Marga Gomez’s Intimate Details opened this January at New York’s La Mama Theatre. In her long career and checkered past she has collaborated with both Monica Palacios and Carmelita Tropicana.

Monica Palacios is a writer/performer based in Los Angeles who was recently awarded a Rockefeller Fellowship for 2003-2004, from the Center for Chicano Studies at UC Santa Barbara. She was named by Out Magazine as one of their Out 100 for 2002 for promoting positive Queer images. Tentaciones Magazine named her one of the 16 most influential LGBT Latinas/os for 2002 for her activism, achievements, visibility and leadership. Her writing appears in many Latino and Queer Anthologies. Her new show Queer Soul is a 20 year retrospective. Palacios is an adjunct professor at UCLA and at UC Riverside.

Carmelita Tropicana is a writer/performance artist winner of an Obie Award for Excellence in Performance. Her book I, Carmelita Tropicana was a Lambda Award nominee and includes Your Kunst is Your Waffen–Art is Your Weapon, co-written with Ela Troyano winner for best short at the Berlin Film Festival and the Audience award at the 18th International San Francisco Film Festival. As a comedian she has appeared at Joes1 Pub, Gotham Comedy Club, and on TV in the PBS Special Out in New York.
