John Giorno
You Got To Burn to Shine: Sex and Sensibility in the New York Avant-Garde
Saturday, June 3; 7 pm
Location: Harvey Milk Civil Rights Academy, 4235 19th Street @ Collingwood
Tickets: $15, Qcc

John Giorno is the guy doing the sleeping in Warhol’s epic film Sleep. Off camera, Warhol gave him a blow job. Friend of everyone in the New York avant-garde, John Giorno was one of the few to acknowledge he was queer and then write about it and them! Here he’ll read, gossip and remember the likes of Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, William S. Burroughs, and Robert Rauschenberg, among many others. Political, pissed off, and one of a kind, Giorno has made telling the truth his art.

Poet, performer, and spoken-word pioneer JOHN GIORNO is the founder of Giorno Poetry Systems and Dial-a-Poem.
