This spring, George Birimisa’s classic one-man show about a gay man coming of age in the 1940’s and 50’s, LOOKING FOR MR. AMERICA, returns to the stage in a special multi-media adaptation. Mixing state-of-the-art digital technology with a timeless tale of love, lust, and loneliness, this production offers a contemporary look at what the New York Native originally called a “gritty story from the American lower classes that brought to mind Genet in The Thief’s Journal.” Presented by Please Louise Productions, this limited engagement is a benefit for the Harvey Milk Institute, and the SF Gay & Lesbian Historical Society. Partial proceeds will also benefit a new video documentary about the life and work of George Birimisa, a Bay Area playwright who has presented openly gay plays around the world since the early 1960s.
