| Twelve literary performers re-interpret and re-imagine living gay back in the day. A three-part series co-presented with the GLBT Historical Society and sponsored by Zellerbach Family Foundation. The final week’s installment stars Justin Chin, Cyd Nova, Ali Liebegott + Len Plass.
Ali Liebegott has been publishing poems and stories for more than twenty years. Her books include The Beautifully Worthless and The IHOP Papers, both winners of a Lambda Literary Award. The IHOP Papers was also awarded a Ferro-Grumley Award for LGBT Fiction The second in a trilogy of hybrid book-length poems, The Summer of Dead Birds, will be published by Alyson Books in April 2011. She’s also writing and illustrating a novel, The Crumb People, about a post-September 11th obsessive duck feeder. She has toured the country several times with multimedia literary arts tour, Sister Spit. In conjunction with San Francisco-based literary organization, RADAR Productions, Liebegott helped found and facilitate the only free queer writers’ retreat: The RADAR Lab and founded RADAR’s annual Eli Coppola Memorial Chapbook Prize. She taught Creative Writing at UC San Diego. Liebegott currently lives in San Francisco.
Len Plass is a San Francisco-based writer. In 2001 he co-founded Junkyard Books, a short lived press that released one anthology–Lowdown Highway–which featured both his writing and his keen eye as co-editor. He has also been published in the Bay Area’s Inside Pride Guide. He has been writing and performing for 13 years, at events such as RADAR Reading Series, K’vetch, and Homo A Go Go. He organized and performed in the Lowdown Highway 2004 national summer tour. Len Plass writes ragged, self-loathing tales about every tired, worn-out kind of heartbreak and hardship. He just crossed North America with Sister Spit: Next Generation. When not writing, Len is busy being psychic.
Cyd Nova is a writer, hooker, and all around shit talker whose writing has appeared in Original Plumbing, $PREAD, and ProVision. He is currently working on two zines – TRAIN WRECK number 3 and a collaboration AIDS zine tenatively titled Quarterly Rectal Review. His performance is a love letter to Beowulf Thorne, editor of Diseased Pariah News – the anti-redemptive, irreverent, lust infected magazine for seropositives of the 90’s.
Justin Chin is the author of three books of essays and three books of poetry; the most recent of which, Gutted (Manic D Press), received the Publishing Triangle’s 2007 Thom Gunn Award for Poetry.
