Queer Fuckery returns to Bindlestiff Studio with a new collection of short plays that range from the personal to the political, with a sprinkle of the absurd. Join us for a three week theatrical engagement dedicated to presenting works that reshape queer resistance with characters of all persuasions and stories that will make you laugh, cry, scream, and love yourself…sometimes at the same time!

BIOGRAPHIES
Queer Fuckery produces works that highlight the lives of queer folks of color and our allies. Bindlestiff Studio cultivates artists who reflect and celebrate the diverse values, traditions, and histories of Pilipino and Filipino American cultures through bold artistic expression and community engagement. Ely Sonny Orquiza is an actor, director, and teaching artist based in San Francisco. He is the founder and artistic director of The Projector Room Ensemble, an un/documentary devised theatre featuring the voices of undocumented, queer, and Asian-American narrative and experience. He has been in various work at Playwrights’ Center, San Francisco Opera, Theatre Rhinoceros, African-American Shakespeare Co., New Conservatory Theater Center, Cal Performances, and Bindlestiff Studio. He is currently the assistant director to M. Graham Smith for American Conservatory Theater’s regional production of Begets: Fall of a High School Robin (Apr. 17-21, 2018). Upcoming: directing Little Opera’s Wagner at San Francisco Conservatory of Music (May 26-28, 2018); Siegfried at San Francisco Opera (June 15-29, 2018); directing Driven at Theatre Rhinoceros (July 3, 2018). | |
Nicky Martinez – is a Program Manager at CounterPulse Theater and a University of San Francisco graduate of the Performing Arts and Social Justice program for Theater. Previous to working with the Queer as Fuck festival as a director they recently showed a short piece they created titled “Dolores” at The Sardine, they have also directed and written their original piece “Missing: GENDER” performed in the Yes To Everything Festival at Exit theater and have worked as an actor at and with these respected theaters and companies: Magic Theater, Z-Space, Dragon Theater Company, The Imaginists, Bindlestiff, Noh Space, University of San Francisco, and others. | |
Primer is Jonas Abella’s third play. His first one was staged in Maryknoll, Quezon City, where he attended college. When not writing, Jonas works for the city and county of San Francisco providing services to undeserved populations, while on weekends he peddles incense and placemats. Jonas is very proud to be a part of this year’s Queer Festival and thanks his family, friends and myriad amorous partners for their unending support. His favorite high school, all-female clique are the Pink Ladies. | |
Drew Stephens is a TV, Film and Stage writer/director (Prinsesa, VDA Tape 96, Nanay’s Lullaby) and was a pioneering member of IBC/True Visions television in Thailand. Drew was the original TV host for Electric City, one of the first LGBT television programs in the USA, and is now volunteering with Scary Cow Film Productions, which mentors aspiring indie filmmakers in the San Francisco Bay Area. | |
Director, Stan Stone is thrilled to be associated with another Jeffrey Fischer Smith play. Stan co-starred in last year’s QAF production of “A Dog Dreams”. Stan also received rave reviews for his one-man show, “Johnny and Scrap”, where he played his father and his mother. In addition to his stage work, Stan is a member of the award winning filmmaking group Barewitness. | |
Roman Rimer is an openly transgender writer and performer currently based in the SF Bay Area. They have written and performed original pieces in NYC, San Francisco, as well as solo pieces at the Kansas City, Chicago and Indianapolis Fringe Festivals in 2011. Since 2013, Roman has been hosting The Weekly Review a current events podcast on Mutiny Radio, where Roman speaks with community organizers, activists and artists. Leave It Empty, a labor of love and purple hair dye, is her second script produced by Bindlestiff Studio. Emmanuel Romero is grateful that Bindlestiff Studio has given him a chance to be a writer for 12 years and counting. His various short plays have been produced as part of Stories High, The Bakla Show, The Love Edition, and Queer as Fuck.
One of his short plays, Viewer Discretion Advised (Tape 96), was adapted into an internationally acclaimed short film by award-winning director Drew Stephens. The short film is currently distributed through Frameline and can be seen on the film company’s YouTube channel. Romero also helped co-write the short film Prinsesa with Stephens and Conrad Panganiban. At Stephens’ urging, Romero adapted Prinsesa into a children’s book titled “Prinsesa: The Boy Who Dreamed of Being a Princess.” Romero would like to thank Matthew Sourbeck and Rhys Ting for their feedback on “Good Boys,” and Stephens for pulling him into “Bound 4 Heaven.” By day, Romero works as a medical lab scientist. |

Jocelyne Ampon is a queer Filipina – American who has been a performance artist since she could walk, having been involved in dance, music, and acting. When she’s not in front of an audience, she is a florist and writing enthusiast. She is also a member of DIWA, and the Mindanao Lilang – Lilang Advisory Board as a musician/dancer of indigenous Philippine traditions. She has collaborated with Bindlestiff since 2006, and is ecstatic to be a part of her second QAF. | |
Judith “Jud” Ferrer is an Oakland based youth developer, cultural worker, and resident artist at Bindlestiff Studio. As a creative Jud puts out work that reflect their twisted view of the world producing shows like Queer as Fuck, Bad Ass Bitches, and sketch comedy shows Midnight Mass and Good Friday. Jud has written and directed numerous plays for shows like Stories High and the Bakla Show. Jud has performed with sketch comedy group Granny Cart Gangstas and the queer pinay collective, Kreatibo. Most recently, Jud produced “Bad Trip” a live shadow play that was featured in APICC’s 2018 United States of Asian American Festival. |
