Endeavor Professional Development Workshops 2016
Endeavor Foundation for the Arts, Creative Labor and Qcc present three workshops at Root Division Gallery (2016)
Workshop #1 | Presenting Yourself: Send Me Your Headshot, Short Bio, and Artist’s Statement
Tuition: $30
Enroll Here for Presenting Yourself
At every stage of an artist’s career, the first request from a curator, producer, or event coordinator is: “Please send me a headshot, bio, and artist’s statement.” Artists who attend this workshop will leave with a fine-tuned narrative biography, an artist’s statement, and an opportunity to meet other artists who are developing their artistic practice.
The workshop facilitator will begin with examples of well-written biographies and artist’s statements. Attendees will then be asked to write a short paragraph about themselves and their work that they will share with the group for constructive feedback. The attendees will then be asked to present a short “elevator pitch” about who they are and their artwork.
Root Division Gallery – 1131 Mission Street (at 7th)
Instructor: Melorra and Melonie Green
Tuition: $30
Enroll Here for Presenting Your Work
This workshop is primarily for visual artists who want to learn how to present their work to curators and galleries. Artists will gain first hand knowledge of how curators view and think about work that is submitted for a specific exhibition versus work that is submitted for general review. From websites that are sent in for review, Melorra and Melonie will project work samples and discuss various best practices for presenting to curators and gallerists. Sending in a link to your website is not required to attend the workshop but highly recommended.
Instructor: Favianna Rodriguez
Tuition: $20
Enroll Here for Understanding the Business of Art
How do artists begin to think of their work in terms of a sustainable business model? How do artists get over their discomfort with marketing themselves? How do artists secure financial support for their art? These are questions that most artists shy away from as they wait on the sidelines hoping to be discovered, which in itself is a myth. By understanding basic artist business practices, you will begin to see your artwork as a means of empowerment. During this workshop, artists will be introduced to concepts such as creative goal-setting, strategic planning, marketing and self-promotion, money management, and legal issues. Artists will walk away from the workshop with a new introductory set of skills and a new view of their creative labor.
