The June 2002 National Queer Arts Festival will explore the nature of racism from a Queer perspective. In keeping with this theme, “Creating Queer Community ” will provide grants between $500 and $1500 to four to six inventive culturally-specific or cross-cultural projects in any artistic medium that addresses the subject of race.
To be eligible to apply, you must attend this two-hour workshop, which will feature presentations by artists who have originated projects that exemplify the program’s community-building and diversification goals. At the workshop’s conclusion, you can submit a brief written statement about your project.
A peer-review panel of queer artists will identify the most promising projects and invite the finalists to an interview. Panelists will evaluate proposals and make their final decision based on the following evaluation criteria: artistic integrity and originality, community impact, and the applicant’s capacity to complete the project.
