The Electra Theater Company was created five years ago by social worker Paula Richardson as a dramatic outlet for her clients. The group was originally a “women with HIV” group and has now developed into a primarily “transgendered women” ensemble. These women are survivors of sexual abuse, drug addiction, Multiple Personality Disorder, sickness, and the system. The text for their new fantastical work, “If I were a Cat,” has been assembled from group storytelling and improvisation. The members of the ensemble explore their own dramatic material; using their mind, body and voice as creative tools in which to open the eyes of the audience and allow their truths to be heard. The cast features Paula Richardson, Margaret Morvay and Jamie Adams and is directed by Adam J. Ansell.
The National Queer Arts Festival is pleased to present this experimental work-in progress. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
