Anand Jay Kalra (he/they) joined Queer Cultural Center as Executive Director in September 2022. He brings a passion for community-based arts and more than two decades of experience in organized peace and justice work. Most recently, Anand was the founding Artistic & Managing Director of Uncaged Library, an arts collaborative and consultancy based in Oakland, CA. Between 2016 and 2022, Uncaged Library’s main arts program was Octavia of Earth, a docu-musical inspired by the life of author and afrofuturist Octavia E. Butler. In the same time period, the consulting side of Uncaged Library helped more than thirty social justice organizations ground their systems, practices, and processes in principles of transparency, justice, and shared power in service of collective liberation. Anand earned a Master’s in Library and Information Science from the University of Michigan 2010 and is proud to be a transgender man.
