This breakout book by Alison Bechdel of Dykes to Watch Out For fame, takes its place alongside unnerving, memorable and darkly funny family memoirs. Meet Alison’s father, historic preservation expert and obsessive restorer of the family’s Victorian house, third-generation funeral home director, high school English teacher, icily distant parent, and closeted homosexual. Through narrative that is alternately heartbreaking and fiercely funny, we are drawn into a daughter’s complex yearning for her father. The relationship achieves its most intimate expression through the shared code of books. When Alison comes out herself in late adolescence, the denouement is swift . . . graphic . . . and redemptive.

Alison will read from Fun Home, show panels of the original work and discuss her creative process.  A Q&A will follow.
