Performance poet Sini Anderson takes the stage for Displacement, a muti-media spoken word performance that addresses displacement on many different levels—community, gender, race, class, culture, body, mind, and religion. Joining Anderson are novelist and performance poet Marci Blackman, and Vancouver recording artist Kinnie Starr. Displacement features special archival video footage of the late, great Kris Kovick. This show also features live sound scores, original video, still images from local sound artists, videographer, and photographers.
Sini Anderson is a performance poet, producer and director who, from 1994-2002, was the cofounder and codirector of Sister Spit and Sister Spits Ramblin Road Show. She is a curator for the National Queer Arts Festival and a producer of Nectar, the women’s stage at SF Pride. She is a cochair of the board of directors of the Harvey Milk Institute and is on the board of directors of the Queer Cultural Center. Anderson is in the process of forming a new nonprofit, queer performance and literary organization. You can find her work in the anthology The Outlaw Bible of American Poetry (Thundermouth Press 1999) and on any of the four Sister Spit CDs.
Marci Blackman
Marci Blackman’s first novel, Po Man’s Child (Manic D Press), was the recipient of the American Library Association’s 2000 GLBT Book Award for literature and the 2000 Firecracker Alternative Book Award for Best New Fiction. Blackman co-edited the critically acclaimed Beyond Definition: New Writing from San Francisco, and her writing has been featured in the following anthologies: Signs of Life and Lollapalooza ’94 (Manic D Press); Fetish: Four Walls Eight Windows; and Brown Sugar (Dutton/Plume).
Kinnie Starr. A self-described mixed blood/mohawk/halfbreed/faker/white girl musician/performer Kinnie Starr KInnie Starr is also a wordsmith, hip-hop radical, film actress, poet, songwriter, mult-instrumentalist and cult figure. Starr uses an irrepressible blend of hip-hop, electronica and rock mixed with her distinctive vocals and lyrics which adds up to an artist with street cred, roots and soul.
Starr has been recording, releasing records and performing since the mid-90’s. Her music has taken her to various parts of the globe (Canada, The USA, England, Germany, Holland and Japan). She has just returned from a Japanese tour where she and her band supported Speech rom Arrested Development and will be embarking on her first tour of Australia later this year.
Kinnie will have a new record out later this year which will be released on Violet Inch Recors (Canada), Infiniti Records (Japan) and Valve Records (Australia).
