Join us for a fabulous afternoon of poetry, music, and comedy by queer disabled performers as we thank our supporters and introduce the community to Fabled Asp, a project chronicling and celebrating 40 years of disability arts, activism and culture in the Bay Area. A fun filled event that is sure to leave you with a smile featuring Papa Dino in a Drag King and Burlesque performance, poetry by Dominika Bednarska, Patty Overland, Jill Lessing and music and comedy surprises.  Food from La Mediterranee.

Karen Ripley
A raucous evening of music, spoken word, performance art and comedy by queer disabled performers.  Anything goes at Krip Salon! And we mean ANYTHING!  An adult talent show with an edge! A fun-filled event that is sure to touch you, and leave you smiling.  Featuring Karen Ripley, Dominika Bednarska, Laura Rifkin, Papa Dino and YOU! Come to perform or just to enjoy.

M.C.  Karen Ripley: Karen Ripley has been teaching improvisation to children and adults for   

over 25 years. Karen was the in-house Improv teacher for Harvey Milk Institute for the past 9 years. Karen has been a part of several improv troupes. The most well known, “Over Our Heads”, performed once a month for 13 years at Mama Bears Bookstore in  Berkeley, Ca.  Recently Karen has been on Logo’s, “WiseCracks”.  http://www.karenripley.com/improv.html

Laura Rifkin, Ph.D. is a Jewish femme artist, performer, activist, and writer. She is the creative catalyst/midwife/founder of “Fabled Asp”- Fabulous/Activist Bay Area Lesbians with Disabilities: A Storytelling Project. www.fabledasp.com.  Her recent work has been published in the open issue of Sinister Wisdom. She has been creatively living with a disability for over 30 years and has been actively involved in the arts since childhood. She’s a former member of AXIS Dance Company and one of the original  co- founders of Wry Crips Disabled Women’s Reader’s Theater.  In her early years she had the good fortune to study with Murray Louis and Merce Cunningham- who remain important influences on her aesthetic sensibilities.

Dominika Bednarska

Dominika Bednarska, femme, is a Doctoral student in English and Disability Studies at the University of California Berkeley. Her writing has appeared in What I Want From You: An Anthology of East Bay Lesbian Poets Nobody Passes: Rejecting the Rules of Gender and Conformity and most recently in the Bellevue Literary Review.

Patty Overland, butch, lives in Oakland. She is a suicide survivor from the Bronx, N.Y., and has been writing poetry since she was 16. She was the co-founder of Wry Crips Disabled Women’s Reader’s Theater along with Laura Rifkin and Judith Smith. Patty regularly takes part in various poetry slams and coffeehouse readings whenever possible.

Papa Dino

Papa Dino:  You can always count on PaPa Dino for a number that is “mucho suave”.  He likes to tease the ladies, but he has a little bit of something for everyone. PaPa Dino is a member of Kreatibo (a queer-pinay performance troupe), Butch Magic (a drag king troupe), Fat Bottom Revue (Big Burlesque), and Neshkinukat, a coalition of Native American artists in Northern California.
