The legendary Teresita by Ester Hernandez
TRANSitions/ TRANSiciones
The exhibit highlights significant passings and changes in our communities and encourages works by and for transgender Latinas/Latinos. QueLACo is proud to exhibit established and emerging visual artists, with this year’s show premiering new works by internationally celebrated Chicana artist, Ester Hernandez. Co-produced by QCC, this visual arts show will continue until June 25th, with free admission for the duration of the exhibit.
Ester Hernandez is a San Francisco visual artist and graduate of UC Berkeley. She is best known for her depiction of women through pastels and prints. Her work reflects political, social ecological and spiritual themes. She has had numerous solo and group shows throughout the U.S. and internationally. Among others her work is included in the permanent collections of the National Museum of American Art-Smithsonian, Library of Congress, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Mexican Museums (San Francisco and Chicago) and the Frida Kahlo Studio Museum in Mexico City. Stanford University has recently acquired artistic archives. For the past 15 years she has been teaching art part time at Creativity Explored of San Francisco, a visual art center for developmentally disabled adults. Recent exhibits include 2004 “Tijuana-International Standard Biennial” in Tijuana, B.C., Mexico, 2003 “Chicano Visions” at the San Antonio Museum of Art, and “One Heart, One World” which toured Japan, the United Kingdom and USA in 2002.
