Haunting, autobiographical paintings of Daphne Scholinski; powerful photos from the roadmap of Chloe Sherman’s life; and larger-than-life paintings of gender-bent renaissance cowboy Cooper Lee Bombardier all join forces in this “much-to-be-talked-about-after-it’s-over” exhibition. Daphne Scholinski
Daphne Scholinski paints for herself and her survival, creating a sort of map of living and breathing emotions. Her work acts as social commentary by mirroring the full range of emotions we experience as humans. By trying to rid ourselves of emotions that society labels as bad, Scholinksi believes we can never fully experience those labeled as good. Only once we learn to embrace the full spectrum of emotions that we will fully experience our lives, ourselves, and each other.
Cooper Lee Bombardier
Cooper Lee Bombardier is a visual artist, illustrator, and writer who has shown art, performed, and sung in myriad Bay Area venues. Bombardier has shown art at the Lab, The Lexington Club, 848 Community Center, and Red Dora’s Bearded Lady. Illustrations have taken the form of show flyers for bands such as Tribe 8 and Cash Hollow, and for the legendary club Faster Pussycat; cover art for both Sister Spit CDs and the Sini Anderson spoken word CD, and the new bike messenger babe logo for Lickety Split. Bombardier earned a BFA in illustration from the Massachusetts College of Art, and has taught creative writing to young people in San Francisco through Writers’ Corps and visual art at Synergy School.
Chloe Sherman
Chloe Sherman received her degree in fine art photography from the San Francisco Art Institute in May 1999. Her work has appeared nationally and internationally through Sotheby’s Artlink Auction. Sherman also received the honor of being selected to participate in Barnstorm XI, the Eddie Adams Workshop in New York of 1998. Earlier that year, she received the SFAI Merit Scholarship. Sherman’s work has been in galleries all over San Francisco at The Diego Rivera Gallery, Collision Gallery, The Lexington Club, Red Dora’s Bearded Lady Café, Josie’s Cabaret, Stillights at SFAI, and A Different Light Bookstore. She has been published extensively in Nothing But the Girl (ed. Susie Bright and Jill Posner; 1996), RESEARCH: Angry Women in Rock (Juno Books; 1996), Out In America (Viking Press; 1994), SF Camerawork Quarterly, Rolling Stone Magazine, Interview Magazine, Deneuve, The SF Bay Guardian, The Bay Times, The SF Weekly, and the Advocate. She lives and works in San Francisco.
