Groucho: A Day in the D’Elia Soup
Tina D’Elia
Friday & Saturday, June 21 & 22; 8 pm
Location: Mission Cultural Center, 2868 Mission @ 24th St

This one-woman comedy focuses on a personality, sexuality, gender identity, and cultural conflict between the character Tina D’Elia and Groucho Marx. One morning Tina, a Latina lesbian, wakes alarmed to find herself transformed into Groucho Marx! As she attempts to go about her day, her mother insists that she remain closeted to her grandparents who have just flown in from Colombia. Meanwhile, Tina’s life only gets worse while the Groucho Marx personality flirts with every woman she sees, including Tina’s mother. A family reunion at the Olive Garden, sexual confusion, eight crazy characters, and one stinking cigar make up this fruitloop nightmare of a play. This event is cosponsored with QueLACo.

Tina D’Elia is an actress, playwright, and published performance poet and a West Coast transplant from Boston. She is best known for her work on the award winning Latina Lesbian play, Motherlands, and her one-woman show, Groucho: A Day in the D’Elia Soup. Tina, the evocative poetry slam winner, starred in the award-winning independent film The Tragedy Of Samatha Biggle And The Twins, which screened in over 20 festivals internationally.
