Portraits of LGBTQ artists text says National Queer Arts Festival 2014

NATIONAL QUEER ARTS FESTIVAL 2014

17th Annual

The theme of the 2014 NQAF is The Body Politic/s. Co-founder, website, media, communications and visual arts & humanities director, Rudy Lemcke said it best:

“It encompasses the idea of the body as sensuous, sentient organism as well as the site of cultural signification and political power. What is it to be in a body, perhaps the “wrong” body; to move, to feel, to desire as well as to be desired or to be objectified or fetishized? What is it like to inhabit a body that others think is “wrong:” Too fat, too thin, too old, too young, too imperfect or too perfect?

The Body Politic/s also focuses on the traditional definition: a group of people considered as a collective unit; a metaphor in which a nation or group is thought to be a corporate entity, being likened to a human body. What is it to be collectively labeled as deviant and at the same time use this collectivity as a liberating force and political power?”

Join us for the thrilling artistic performances, readings, circus and comedy that arose from those words! I can promise you a unique experience…and some serious fun.

Pamela Peniston, Artistic Director
