NATIONAL QUEER ARTS FESTIVAL 2015

Queer Cultural Center stages an annual month-long multidisciplinary National Queer Arts Festival, documents significant Bay Area Queer arts events on our website, provides fundraising and other technical assistance services to emerging culturally-specific and gender-specific Queer arts groups, and conducts Creating Queer Community, a program that to date has commissioned more than 60 San Francisco-based artists to create new work. Since 1998, QCC has organized an annual month-long National Queer Arts Festival. To date, these Festivals have presented more than 400 different events featuring over 1000 Queer artists.

CONNECTIONS

The theme for this year’s National Queer Arts Festival is Connections. As LGBTQ+ people, we make connections across many so-called borders of ethnicity, gender, ability, and economic status as well as physical borders across cities, states and countries to assemble a family, to create art, to provoke commentary, to weave social justice issues into our practices, to explore spirituality and to have a hella good time.

Individually, Queers are constantly forging new ways to connect within and outside of our perceived communities. We asked artists to explore the connections we make internally, individually, collectively and in community and to investigate the sinews that hold them together and the forces that break them apart.

When the Festival kicks off on May 29, 2015 with QUEER REBELS FEST, you will have 40 + opportunities to see the amazing artistic responses to that theme!

See you at the Festival!
